Factors that influence performance analysis that you should know about

If you are working as a sports analyst, you need to understand that performance is a very specific index that relies on a multitude of factors and variables and must always be looked at in that context. These variables are always interacting with each other and as such you must set some limits in your analysis. We have what we refer to as situational variables and contact variables. Situational variables like the name suggests, always vary depending on the situation and they can have a major effect on the performance of a team or an athlete. Examples of situational variables include scoring first, match location, and quality of the opposing team among others.

In this article, I will be looking at the various factors that influence performance and how analysts should incorporate them into their analyses to achieve more effective วิเคราะห์บอล.

Score line – Winning vs. drawing vs. losing

When a team scores more goals than the opposing team, having more goals is often considered as the ultimate performance indicator. Being able to score the first goal is often considered a very strong performance indicator by analysts. When a team scores the first goal, it can be very demoralizing to the other team and can often impact the final result a lot. The score line also has a major impact on other performance indicators. For instance, if a team is losing or winning, this will influence distance covered and possession of the ball among other factors. This is truer, especially if teams are recovering from a difference in goals.

Generally, when a team is losing the game, it tends to have more possession of the ball in mid offensive zones. On the other hand, when a team is winning the game, it often has a tendency of being more aggressive in defense/attack positions with the aim of getting closer to the opponent’s goal. Lastly, teams that draw tend to vary their offensive methods to try and outplay their opponents. Players in drawing teams tend to shoot the ball from the center position.

Match location (home vs. away)

If you are a football fanatic, then you must have heard the phrase home advantage. This refers to the advantage that a team gets when it is playing from their home pitch. Playing from a home stadium always seems to impact the final outcome of a game a lot with the team that is playing from home winning most of the games. Thus, when analysts are analyzing a game, they often include this as a major factor in their analyses. Even a weaker team can defeat a much stronger team if they are playing from their own stadium.

Type of competition (league vs. Knock-out system)

Football usually has different types of competitions, with some being more serious than others. Competitions that are more serious usually solicit more seriousness from players than those that are not. If players are taking the competition more seriously, they will put in more effort to ensure a more favorable result on their side compared to when they are not taking the game seriously. Thus, analysts will always consider the seriousness of the competition in their analyses.
